What affects an ICON's value

ICON's LSV package is a real plus on the used market. Early lead-acid units have depreciated hard; 2022-onward lithium carts hold value far better.

In South Africa a used ICON typically sells for R55 000 – R180 000 depending on model, year, battery and condition (private-sale bands, updated 2026-09-01). The specifics for ICON:

  • Street-legal LSV package (lights, mirrors, seatbelts, VIN) is standard — a plus for community buyers.
  • Lithium models (2022+) hold value much better than early lead-acid i40s.
  • Expect 30–40% depreciation in the first two years, then a flatter curve.

ICON models we buy

We buy every ICON, but these are the models we see most. Each has its own page with what we check and what it's worth:

i20 (2018–present): ICON's two-seater with the LSV kit (lights, mirrors, seatbelts) from the factory.

i40 (2018–present): The i40 is ICON's volume seller: four seats, street-legal kit and, on later carts, lithium.

i40L (2019–present): The lifted i40 with off-road tyres — the most popular ICON configuration in beach and estate communities..

i40F (2020–present): Four forward-facing seats on the i40 platform — the family layout many buyers prefer..

i60 (2018–present): Six seats and the LSV kit — the ICON that community families buy.

i60L (2019–present): The lifted six-seater — big tyres, six seats, street-legal..

Selling an ICON: what we check

Here's how it works: you send photos and answer a short form; we reply with a firm written offer within 24 hours; if you're happy, you accept and sign on your phone and pick a two-hour collection window. On the day we check the cart matches the photos, load it, and pay by EFT before we drive away.

From your photos we look at:

  • Tyres, brakes and steering — we look at tread, brake feel and play in the steering.
  • Extras — rear flip seat, lights, lift kit, sound system, enclosure. Tidy factory-style extras add real value.
  • Battery type and age — the single biggest factor. A dated invoice or a photo of the date stamp helps.
  • Body, seats and canopy — cracks, sun damage and torn seats all cost money to put right.

Questions sellers ask

How much is a used ICON golf cart worth?

In South Africa a used ICON typically sells for R55 000 – R180 000 depending on the model, year, battery type and condition. Street-legal LSV package (lights, mirrors, seatbelts, VIN) is standard — a plus for community buyers. Send WeBuyCarts photos for an exact written offer within 24 hours.

Do you buy ICON carts with old or dead batteries?

Yes. We refurbish carts, so an ICON with a tired lead-acid pack is still worth real money to us — the offer simply reflects the cost of a new pack. Lithium ICON models fetch a premium.

Which ICON models fetch the most?

i40L, i60, i60L — lithium, four or six seats, low hours. Older two-seaters on lead-acid sit at the bottom of the range but still sell.

Do you buy golf carts that aren't running?

We do. Non-runners are a big part of what we buy around South Africa, because we refurbish and resell carts ourselves. A cart with a tired lead-acid pack is still worth real money to us — the offer just allows for the new pack.

Is the offer really free, and do I have to accept it?

Yes and no. The offer is free and there's no obligation at all — it's a firm number, valid for seven days, and you can accept, counter or walk away. We'd rather you took our number to compare than felt pressured.

What do I need on the day of collection?

Your ID, the charger and keys, and the cart where we can load it. We check that it matches your photos, sign off the sale agreement you already signed on your phone, and pay by EFT before we drive away. If the cart lives behind a gate, let security know we're coming or send us a visitor code with your booking.
